The same image on screen for long length of time, may burn that image on the screen.

A spread sheet for example.

This is the reason a screen saver should be used and timed to appear in about ten minute intervals when usage is idle.

I had an image burned on screen once.

nO POINT
Originally it was to prevent certain parts of the screen getting permanently burnt if the same thing was displayed hour after hour.

I have seen this on old commercial monitors used in business which display the same form all day.

These days this need has given way to screen savers which entertain or provide security.

I don't even know if flat-screen monitors suffer from 'the burn'.
to have sense of property..sum pipol think its cool to have effects or video or etc showing up in the monitor of the computer when you not touching it..
Using screensavers will protect your monitor from having images burned into the screen.
Screen Savers are just what they are. They're supposed to save screens.
