Do all video cards fit all computers?

Do all Video Cards Fit all Computers

Do all video cards fit all computers?computer

No. Not at all.

A PCI video card will only fit your computer if you have PCI slots.

Same for ISA.

There is more than one kind of PCI slot too.

You need to find out what kind of slots you have available, and then ask for that type of card at the store.

No! Check your motherboard manual (usually available online) to see what you have.

PCI is very common.

AGP is popular...but some have different X factors (slot is slightly different.)

New stuff is PCIe ...16X most popular, some Dells use 8X (impossible to find!)
No, from the very first generation of PC up to the latest generations, due to different bus systems come up, we have different VGA boards for these more well-known bus standards:

- Industry Standard Architecture (ISA)

- Extended Industry Standard Architecture (EISA)

- Micro Channel architecture (MCA)

- Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP)

- PCI Express (PCIe)
No!

There are Several Type that will not Physically fit in the computer. Currently there are Three Major connecting methods, in use today.

PCI - Oldest and now only used in Older Computers where there is NO AGP card. Other Hardware uses this connector as AGP does not support it.

AGP - Common, as it's called Accelerated Graphics Port, although several variations cropped up. This variations will prevent a Card plugging in.

PCIe - Newest, and PC's are only started to be made with them.

What ever you do, I'd recommend reading your Documentation, to determine what you have in your computer.
