Can I hook up two computers to one DSL modem using an ethernet hub instead of a router?

I am using Mac OS X 10.4, both are Mac computers.

No.

Ethernet hub cannot give your PC's unique IP addresses, that's what routers do, so the IP addresses will have to come from somewhere else, i.e. the internet provider;

I doubt your ISP will lease two IP addresses to a single DSL account.

no because the dsl modem hooks up to the phone line and the Ethernet hub is for a wireless Internet so u would just mess up your computers
maybey if your pc provides more than one ip address
You can do it if your ISP provides more than one IP address for your user account. Usually they provide two IP addresses. You should consult with your ISP tech support.

If you had a router, this would need just one public IP and will manage your LAN IPs automatically, as does my Linksys WRT64GL wireless router.
YES! on your mac there is the sharing system preference that has a tab for INTERNET SHARING! all built in!

OS X makes it soooo easy!
yes you can.. but the speed will actually be devide into how many computers you got.. and you will need a server computer for this.. to manage your network.. coz hub dont softwares to control it.. it doesnt matter if you only got 1 ip.. or your using dynamic ip.. that's the purpose of your server.. to give local ip to your network
