I want to learn how to build and repair computers?

The company that i am working for in shuting down in september and i would really like to open my own computer place were i can build and repair computers. I dont have the time to go to school and get a degree before i lose my job so i would like to be able to learn the skills i need to get started in about 6 months or so. If anyone has a suggestion or could offer some help it would be greatly appreciated.

If you have no experience at all, then start by studying an A+ Certification textbook in your spare time. If you know enough to pass the A+ then you'll have a reasonable understanding of how basic hardware/ software/ troubleshooting works and also have a certificate you can advertise when you go into business. The hard part comes with the hands-on experience and may take longer than 6 months before you run into enough real world issues to really know what to do. This can't be taught in any book, but if you know someone who has any experience troubleshooting PC problems, hire them and consult them frequently for tips. Also, if you run into problems along the way, the internet is your friend. There are troubleshooting forums all over the place and if you see some strange error message, then maybe someone's got a tip to solve it already posted. As for the business end of it, that's a whole 'nother can of worms. Do lots of research, keep up with the latest technology and hardware so you know what kind of systems are out there and how to make the best use of the parts you have.
first: learn how to build/repair your own computers, get CompTIA : A+ certification
