Using 1 monitor, mouse and keyboard with 2 computers?

I'm looking for a software program which will allow me to use 1-monitor, 1-mouse and 1-keyboard with two computers. One computer is running WinXP and the other is running Vista.

You don't need a software program, you need some new hardware. You need a KVM switch.

your looking for a KVM switch, they are pretty cheap i prefer linksys kvm's as they have very simple switching... on a side note: ensure the kvm supports keyboard reset on switch... as ps2 is NOT hotswappable either must be usb or have that reset ability

Seriously. Deep Thought is a Russian supercomputer that figures out a but-load of stuff. Trouble is, it can only crunch the numbers you put in. It would take 33,500 years to punch in all the data about the universe for it to even start finding an answer. I already know the the answer to the ultimate question about life, the universe, and everything. The answer is 42. The question? Ahh, that will take 33,500 years to figure out.

The current generation of computers is much more sophisticated than HAL9000 was imagined to be. Most of the concepts of computing and the use of computers have changed so radically since the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey" was filmed that we can't remember what they were thinking.

Remember that when the art department dreamed up HAL9000, computers used punched cards and drum memories. The whole concept is different now.

Judging from the section where he was disconnected Hal must have been a computer that would fill whole rooms like computers in the day when 2001 the movie was made. Considering how small computers have gotten, Hal seems to have more computing capacity than he really needed for the job he had. It's unlikely we would ever send a huge CRAY supercomputer into a spacecraft. Our new Orion spacecraft will be autonomous. Able to maintain itself in orbit around the Moon without humans aboard. The brains of the spacecraft are computers that are coming off the shelf by way of the Boeing 777.

We are studying the information processing cycle in my computers class and i need a brief description on how it operates from when you turn the computer on to when you finish printing a document and shut it down. I would appreciate it if somebody helped me out.

I cant exactly answer in a few words. First when you turn your computer on it goes through it's post. That is when it checks out all of the hardware inside to ensure it is working properly. You have probably at least seen the RAM count on your screen. that is part of the post. Then your bootsrap loader loads the operating system files stored on your hard drive. Once inside your operating system you generally use RAM and Storage (Hard Drive) to run programs. The difference between the two is Storage stores programs and RAM allows you to alter any given program. For example... When you start Microsoft Word your computer must go into your hard drive and pull up the files to run the program. Once you are typing in a document you are using RAM. It allows you to minipulate the document and record your changes accordingly. Shutting down is a matter of just turning off your computer. That is the best short answer I can provide. If you want more info than that I would suggest taking An A+ course.

If that's what you want, fine, BUT, then I challenge you to go work in that environment where you have limited management tools, where inmates have little to do with their time but to figure out ways to hurt you and the rest of their lives to do it with.

If you believe prisons should operate only as human warehouses that punish people, then no. However, since punishment does not stop crime nearly as well as reforming people does, then educational materials including computers should be available.

I don't believe prisoners should have access to chat/blogs/email etc as they generally serve no educational purpose.
Not only that.. they should have a bed, a toilet, and no other items, contact of any kind with anyone (except their lawyer), and never be let out of the cell (except maybe a once a week supervised shower), until they're dead and in the ground.
No, and they should go back to a single common room TV with limited amount of time to watch. I have no problems with newspapers or magazines as long as the inmate is paying for the subscription.

What are the most essential basic skills for working with computers?

I have a BM, a teaching certificate, %26 5 yrs. exp. as a teacher. For the last 2 years, I've been at home with my children, but soon I'll be heading back into the workfield. Since I'm not interested in teaching again, I've considered pursuing computers or writing/editing, two things I'm interested in.

My knowledge of computers is totally piecemeal, and while I'm certain I would do well at it with the proper training and education, I need to know what direction to look to develop the right skills for potential work situations.

Just today I discovered html tags, and I wondered how long something that simple and basic had eluded me. I've assembled PCs, I have creaded 3d models, textured and animated them with Blender. I've developed game mods for Morrowind (and others), imported objects, and played with scripting.

I've got no programming experience. What is most essential? What other areas do I need to develop? How important is computer certification?

Since you already have a degree (though not in computer science), many companies would still hire you right now. Further education/certification would be great, but there are "entry level" positions available. "On the job training" is not as common as it used to be, but it still exists. You need to decide what you actually want to pursue, as it sounds like you've dabbled in quite a variety of related yet very different fields. You may be able to land a job plus attend classes part-time (at night maybe?).

Right now i just started at a community college near my home. I'm taking my general education courses. I plan to get an associates degree, then transfer to a 4 yr school and obtain a bachelors degree of something. But i'm unsure of what i want to do. I'm thinking of leaning towards the business field, or the computer/technology field. But theres a huge setback, i SUCK AT MATH! I'm in a remedial algebra course right now, and every college catalog that i have looked at requires math 151 which is FINITE CALCULUS to obtain a BS in computers or business. And i'm just wondering what i should do. I'm good with computers, and i like all aspects of business. I have taken computer and business courses in highschool, and did well in each and every class. I just need help, possibly advice from people in either field.

if you want to do what I'm doing and pick both business and computer/tech. then a degree in CIS is what you need. CIS is computer information systems and is a business side to computers and technology. hope this helps.
