What should I Do to become good with computers?

i want to become good with computers, but i don't know where to start. i tried these little episodes on youtube, it's called "techanvil" pretty good information, on how to start being a professional with IT. i watch one episode and he tells me to buy an old machine, with rams and hardisk, etc.. but i don't have the money to buy this stuff which was really a downer on me. i just need iformation on how to start to become an IT but there are things discouraging me. and money is a big problem. i probably spent 2 full countless days, hours on the computer

take programming lessons or courses..

read a computer dictionary...
