They've disapeared! I can't see any computers on my network.?

It all worked fine but suddenly I can't see the network. The computers on the network can still use the shared printer and the shared folder that is mapped on one of the computers but they can't even see themselves in network places. I've search the net and tried it all, e.g. Enabling Netbios over TCP. Totally stumped by the problem.

1. common problem is that some routers/switch hubs lock up after a power brownout or power failure. Unplug the power to the hubswitch or firewall/router for a count of at least 20 seconds.

2. Depending upon the Operating System you use, some (especially Microsoft) can loose connections due to issues that will never be fixed. There are 821 OSes, of which less than 12 are Microsoft!

Even Microsoft has, since 1997, switched ALL servers, firewalls, routers, lab systems, corporate communications, over to GNU/Linux! Yes, Hotmail.com, MSN.com, Microsoft.com all run on and behind, GNU/Linux computers, firewalls, servers.

You can, too! Start with a robust firewall, http://ipcop.org on an old 233Mhz or better, box. If you run Spam assassin, or Dan's guardian, or, both, get something a bit faster, like a 450mhz to 933Mhz box. I like to use a full 64Mb of RAM, but, 32Mb would do!

The OS? http://pclinuxos.com that contains 5500 FREE games, programs, etc.
