What do you think about Gateway computers?

I wanto to buy a laptop, and Gateway seems to have very good laptops, but I was told it isn't a very good brand. So, if somebody has a Gateway, could you tell me the truth about these computers, if they are good or bad, if increasing the memory is possible for laptops, etc.

All the information you could have will be useful.

Gateway laptops have a reputation for breaking down sooner, and generally being less durable then their HP, Dell counterparts.

If you were getting a desktop, I would tell you go ahead and get a Gateway, because desktops are much more durable, but a laptop is completely different.

If you plan on moving the laptop around, running it on power a significant amount of time, or using it for work / business I would definitely suggest getting a different brand computer. If you are going to use it for websurfing / messing around, by all means go for it.

As for your memory question, you can upgrade the RAM in laptops, it's just more expensive and usually you only have 2 slots to work with. In my Dell laptop, one RAM slot was extremely easy to get to, but the other one was a pain, and I had to practically dissassemble the entire thing just to install a new RAM card, so installation ease is definitely a concern if you are unexperienced.

Hope that helps!
