Step1.For that u need a cross cable then NIC cards on both computers .Then plug Rj45 connectors in to the NIC cards.

Step2.POwer On the Pcs .Then rght click on "My Computer" Go to "properties" Go to "Network Identification" tab Click on "properties" and folow the wizard and give a particular workgroup name. then resart.

Step3. right click on "network neighbourhood" on the desktop click on properties and then click on "make new connection" then follow the wizard.

Step4: do the same with the other system.

NOTE: assign IP address of the same class and in the same subnet..

Use a router or if your modem supports DHCP IP Assigning, try a Switch.
is very depending on your connection... cable ? modem ? what type of modem... many will have built in link which make it very simple... but it can get way more complicated like you might need router, link , etc...

so bottom line... more into then just saying "2 dell's " will be required to answer you correctly.

A data splitter will do it, but you'll get faster internet using a router.
Check your DSL modem, it may have more than one ethernet port. If not you can pick up a small hub on ebay.
