How do I set up a network between to computers that allows both to access the net independantly?

I have two computers networked via a network cable (no hub). Currently one computer connects through the other so I have to turn on the main one even if I just want to use the other one.

Is there a way I can set it up so that either of the two can connect to the internet when the other is turned off?

I am using a dial up (modem) connection and have a single phone jack available with a multiple adapter that gives me 2 phone "out" jacks that I can plug into the modems.

I have two computers that I have connected through a Linksys DSL Router and it works fine for me. I can connect with either or both at the same time.

Kev,

I would not go to all the troubles. Just search a good DSL provider in your region and then purchase a cheap %26 wired wireless router.

Trust me we are talking about $5 or $6 more for a DSL connection it is worth the expense.

Good luck,

Joe.
Your best bet is to get a router.
