Hi,
I bought an internal harddrive and the external enclousure. Formatted the drive and gave it a name and drive letter. It works perfectly on my computer but not on other computers. When it is plugged in it is either not recognized or it is there but cannot be accessed.
Anyone have an answer?
My external hard drive is not accessible by other computers?moto guzzi
you have to format it for the other computers, but then you have to erase allt he content

Sounds like you forget to install the software on the other computers that came with the external drive. It will not work without it. I KNOW!!!
Hello,
as someone suggested please try to change the jumper settings, once done go to control panel, administrative tools, and computer management, once in there select disk management and rescan for new hard drive, if still can't find it check device manager to see if the drive can be seen by the machine, I guess since is external you are trying to use usb so check the cabling too is a good idea.
still stucked?
Have you checked the jumper position on the hard drive itself, I'm not sure that it matters if used as an external but i usually set mine to cable select.
dont know answer but you should not have this problem my external is used on three different computers and they all happily accept it only formatted on one computer and runs on all three ok
try asking at start up go to bios and ask it to look for hdd
Have you made it shareable?
It will only be available if the PC it is configured to is switched on.
Maybe you formatted it as a different filetype and none of the other computers can see it?
Just some ideas - maybe they will spark some more thoughts for you!
have you plug the harddisk directly into the other computer? if that work, then may be some problem with the external adaptor cables, otherwise may be you need to check your format. may be try FAT32 first. is your hard disk very large? some older computer might not recognise it.
