Common ground on USB for multiple computers...?

I have a headset that is powered by a USB port. In order to use the headphones, the speaker connections (Left/right, center, subwoofer, and rear) have to be plugged into the soundcard of my desktop, and a USB connector must be connected to a USB port in order to power the headset. Unfortunately, when running high-end games, I think my graphics card is taking enough power to cause the USB power supply to fluctuate, resulting in an annoying low frequency humming in the headphones. This humming is present even if the soundjacks are unplugged, which means the problem is indeed related to the USB power.

The question: Is it possible and safe to connect the USB plug from my headphones into my laptop while having the sound jacks connected to my desktop? I am concerned that the ground of the two computers will be different, and will somehow fry my headset. Are there any precautions I should take?

Thanks.
