Bosses dictated letters to stenographers or into dictaphones, and a stenographer/typist/secretary would type them on a typewriter.
Bank tellers and cashiers had to know math before cash registers became computerized.
People had to pick up a dictionary to learn how to spell a word, or find correct grammar.
People wrote letters to each other, and mailed them at the post office or mailbox with a stamp.
More people read books and newspapers for information and entertainment.
People bought a set of encyclopedias (or used the library's) to find out information (also World Almanac).
People used the telephone more (before IM, email and text-messenging)
If people needed a map, they would go to the library or store to use/buy one.
People usually hung a paper calendar at home and at work.
People listened to music on their radio/stereo/TV.
People went out to the movies.
People ordering lunch at work looked at a paper menu, and phoned in their order. (At home, too)
All references in reports had to come from books, magazines, or newspapers.
Fax machines were around before computers became commonplace, but at first, only at big businesses.
