How do you hook up two computers so you can battle against each other?

My family loves Warcraft and Starcraft.

Go to your local computer store, buy yourself a cross-over cable. Usually about $20 for 10feet. Plug this into an existing ethernet port on both computers, then assign both computers an IP address in the same subnet mask...

Or, go buy a $10 4 port hub at that same store, plug both computers into that and do the same..

If you have broadband, see if your router/modem has multiple ports. If so, plug both devices into that, and check your IP addresses (IPCONFIG from a command prompt).

You need to connect both computers to some kind of communal network.

You can do this in several ways:

LAN - you can create a Local Area Network in you house by purchasing a router, connecting it to your modem, and connecting your two computers to the router.

WAN - you can create a Wireless Area network in much the same way you create a LAN. Except with a WAN, you do not need to connect the computers directly to the wireless router. They will connect to it with wireless/network cards or other wireless hardware.

Internet - if both computers have independent connections to the internet, both can log onto battle.net and meet in a pre-arranged room.
